- Category: In-person AI Day
Overview:
A practical day for clerks, RFOs, council officers and members. Work with experts and peers to discover what AI can actually do for you and your council, with real scenarios from real council examples.
Two pathways, one day:
This day runs two learning pathways side by side, so officers and members from the same council can attend together.
- Clerks and officers. Hands-on and practical. Learn how to write better Copilot prompts, work with GovAssist, and tackle real council scenarios in interactive workshops.
- Members. A facilitated forum built around your priorities. Members shape the agenda together, with an experienced facilitator guiding the discussion throughout the day. Explore the governance, leadership and decision-making questions that matter most, from AI opportunities and risks to planning, finance, community engagement and what to ask of your officers.
What you’ll learn:
Clerks and officers will leave with practical AI skills they can start using straight away. You’ll build confidence writing effective Copilot prompts, explore how GovAssist can support everyday council work, and work through real council scenarios with people facing the same day-to-day challenges.
Members will leave with a clearer understanding of how AI fits into good council governance. Through facilitated discussion and shared experiences, you’ll explore the opportunities, risks and questions that matter most, leaving with practical ideas, greater confidence and a starting point for shaping AI within your own council.
On the day:
The day begins with tea, coffee and registration before everyone comes together for a shared introduction to AI, exploring the opportunities, governance and risks for local councils. You’ll then see GovAssist in action with a live demonstration before splitting into your chosen pathway.
Clerks and officers will spend the morning learning a practical framework for writing better Copilot prompts. In the afternoon, you’ll build on those skills by exploring real council scenarios, sharing ideas with peers and discovering practical ways AI can support your day-to-day work.
Members will join a facilitated AI Forum where the agenda is shaped by the priorities of the room. Together you’ll explore the governance, leadership and decision-making questions that matter most to councillors, sharing experiences, asking questions and learning from peers facing similar challenges.
Everyone comes back together at the end of the day to reflect on what they’ve learned, share key takeaways and leave with practical ideas they can put into action at their own council.
Before you arrive:
Take five minutes to complete our AI assessment, you’ll get a personalised starting point from which you can compare notes with others on the day.
