On Sunday 8th September I took part in the London to Brighton Cycle ride. I rode as part of the Halls Foundation Team who were raising money for Stowe Scholars. The scheme, which was initially endorsed by Sir Richard Branson, gives 5 underprivileged children from South Africa the opportunity to study for two years at Stowe School in Buckingham.
One of my nieces attended Stowe and used her gap year to volunteer at the Dominican School in South Africa where the students are chosen from, so raising funds for them is particularly close to my heart.
After a grueling 54 miles – which included a broken chain, change of bike and some seriously steep hills – I completed my challenge. I rode through the finish line with my brother Michael (founder of the Halls Foundation) so it was a real family affair! After the race was over I could reflect on my experience.
I actually really enjoyed the race, and despite my bike malfunction I was determined that it wouldn’t stop me from getting to the finish line. Thankfully I made it in one piece and I am looking forward now to seeing how much I have raised for the Stowe Scholars.
If you would like to donate to my chosen charity please feel free to follow the link to my just giving page https://www.justgiving.com/David-Hall33 any donation would be appreciated and you can learn a little more about the work the Halls Foundation is doing with Stowe Scholars. Thankyou for any support you can give.
